Angelyn Wong relishes transforming small spaces into welcoming homes
Shortly after graduating, Angelyn Wong joined the interior design team at Rezt+Relax with an ardent interest in the field, but not much experience. Reminiscing, she explains, “Seeing the joy of our clients when they walked into their newly designed home was incredibly fulfilling.” Angelyn requested training and spent a year as an apprentice with one of the company’s creative leads until she was able to carry out her own projects. Now, after 12 successful years, she is a senior designer and still as enthusiastic about the work as ever before.

Residents of this Jurong Condo development will enjoy easy access to major expressways, nearby MRT stations and bus services. The future Cross Island Line is also expected to reduce travelling time to the CBD significantly.
Residents of the Jurong Lake District Condo will also enjoy proximity to a range of amenities. Several shopping malls and retail stores, as well as restaurants, cafes and other entertainment venues, are located nearby. With the Jurong Lake Gardens and nearby parks, residents can also enjoy green spaces for leisure, recreation and relaxation. With a combination of city conveniences, connectivity, and leisure activities, this Jurong Condo development offers something for everyone.
As larger cities like Singapore have large numbers of smaller units, Angelyn often finds space a challenging factor when designing interiors, as clients request for ample storage opportunities which leaves less floor space. Here, she relies on her creativity to create the impression of a larger space and make the most of it.
An example of her handiwork is a Gramercy Park project which she recently completed for an overseas customer who uses it as a second home on visits to Singapore. She reveals that “there was a very short discussion when he handed over the keys to the apartment and left for home. He just specified that he wanted it to be like a high-end hotel room, designed exclusively for him, and with accents of gold throughout.”
Given this brief, Angelyn explored boutique hotels and international chain hotels from all over the world and created a luxurious suite that was as comfortable for guests and family as a hotel, but with plenty of space for everyone to relax. She was able to bypass additional work on the bathrooms and kitchen as they were all already in good condition. However, she added a standing bar with high chairs, for a casual meal or drink which also helped to delineate the space.
In-line with the consistent theme of the home, Angelyn also used multiple textures on walls and finishings to create a “maximalist feel” without taking up more space. This also adds complexity to the home and helps distinguish between different areas.
The warm lighting also complements the natural light that floods in from the floor-to-ceiling windows, as well as adds a sense of grandeur in narrow spaces such as the entrance and second bedroom. Mirrors are also added which have a bronze tint to match the gold accents used elsewhere, and which Angelyn also used to make the dining area look more spacious.
Moving to the bedrooms, where a calming atmosphere was the goal, she reduced the use of gold and amplified darker wood tones in shades of grey. Each bedroom is given a slightly different texture, and to create a continuous feel, Angelyn then applied the same textured wall to the supporting beams in each room.
Little accents of colour are added to make the space unique, such as emerald green armchairs and cushions in the living area, and bright blue cushions on gold barstools in the bar seating. Roman blinds that match the tones in each room are also included to soften the space further.
The end result is a stunning apartment that offers a grand presence within limited space. The perfect setting for the next getaway.
